Joines Named to 2005 Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senior midfielder Monica Joines was named to 2005 Tewaaraton Trophy preseason watch list. This is Joines’ second time being selected as a player to watch for the prestigious honor that is awarded annually to the best player in collegiate lacrosse.
Earlier this season, Joines was named the BIG EAST Conference’s Women’s Lacrosse Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
The Tewaaraton Award Foundation announced its preseason watch list for the Spring of 2005. These players are considered early season indicators of who to watch as the 2005 lacrosse season begins. This list will be voted upon by coaches and narrowed as the season progresses, ultimately reaching a final list of five women who constitute the award's finalists.
Joines finished the 2004 season second on the team with 48 points on 40 goals and eight assists, and already ranks sixth in career goals (86), ninth in career assists (18) and seventh in career points (104) at SU. At, season’s end, she was a third-team IWLCA All-American and an All-North Region First Team selection.
Tewaaraton will hold its 5th Annual award ceremony on Thursday, June 2, 2005. The male and female winners are honored, along with the five finalists from each side. The event will take place in Washington D.C. at the National Geographic Society headquarters.

The Orange begins the 2005 campaign on Sunday, Feb. 27 when it plays Albany at 12:00 p.m. at the Carrier Dome.
