
Scarpinato Garners BIG EAST Graduate Scholarship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Tim Scarpinato, a member of the men’s cross country and track and field teams, was selected as a BIG EAST/Aéropostale Scholar-Athlete Award winner. He was one of 11 student-athletes selected by the conference’s Academic Awards Committee to receive a $2,000 stipend towards graduate studies.
Scarpinato, a native of Croghan, N.Y., is a four-time member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and two-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star. Scarpinato is a chemical engineering major at SU.
Aéropostale is the official apparel of BIG EAST Championships and is the sponsor of the Conference’s Post-Graduate Student-Athlete Scholarship Program. This year Aéropostale will award 26 scholarships to Conference student-athletes to assist in their pursuit of graduate or professional studies.
Guy Melamed, a midfielder/defender on the Boston College men’s soccer team, was named the 2004-05 BIG EAST/ Aéropostale Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The other men’s winners are: Robert Folan, Connecticut (Men’s Swimming & Diving, Actuarial Science and Finance); Paul Brandley, Georgetown (Men’s Soccer, Government/Economics); Brent D’Amico, Notre Dame (Men’s Tennis, Finance); Jacob Kring, Pittsburgh (Men’s Soccer, Finance); Dylan Wykes, Providence (Men’s Cross Country/Track & Field, Sociology/Mathematics); Christopher Karcz, Rutgers (Men’s Soccer, Biomedical Engineering); James Wladyka, St. John’s (Baseball, Finance); Dwight McCaulsky, Seton Hall (Men’s Track & Field, Elementary Education/English); Bryan Rivera, Villanova (Men’s Swimming & Diving, Peace & Justice/Spanish); Lee Fritz, West Virginia (Baseball, Exercise Physiology/Physical Therapy).
