HANOVER, N.H. - Former Syracuse University goalkeeper Betsy Wagner will join the Dartmouth field hockey staff as an assistant coach with goalkeeping responsibilities, announced head coach Amy Fowler.
"We are very excited to welcome Betsy to the Dartmouth family. She brings a great technical knowledge in the goalkeeping area as a second team All-American from Syracuse," Fowler said. Wagner is also on a watch list for the U.S. Developmental Program as one of the top goalkeepers not currently on the national team, Fowler said. "Her aspirations to play for the U.S. squad will enable her to convey the most up-to-date techniques and tactics to our Big Green goalkeepers."
Wagner worked Syracuse field hockey camps from 2001-04, where she served as assistant goalkeeping coach. Wagner was the head goalkeeping coach at camps in Colorado for Nike (2001), the University of Denver (2003) and Colorado Academy (2003). She worked with goalkeepers at Premiere Field Hockey camps in Elizabethtown, Pa., in 2003 and 2004 and worked with Team Colorado in 2003.
Last year, Wagner received numerous accolades during her final season at Syracuse. Wagner was a second team All-America selection while being selected BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and to the All-BIG EAST First Team. She was one of two goalies chosen to represent the North Squad in the STX/NFHCA North/South Senior All-Star game and was also named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star for the fourth time.
Wagner played every second in goal as a junior while also serving as team captain. She was named to the fall and spring Athletic Director's Honor Rolls after placing on the honor roll in spring 2001.
Wagner completed her career with a 21-19 record and eight shutouts after posting a 1.68 GAA and .777 save percentage.
A native of Cherry Hills, Colo., Wagner graduated with a degree in consumer studies.
