
Papaleo Inducted Into Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Former Syracuse University standout and current Christain Brothers Academy soccer coach Joe Papaleo will be inducted into the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame. Papaleo was named Soccer America's Goalkeeper of the Year and earned All-American honors in 1982, one of the best seasons in school history.
Papaleo owns several Orange records and ranks high on many others. Papaleo's 12 shutouts and 16 wins in 1982 is the most in a single season. His 142 saves is third all-time in a single season, while 6.45 saves per game is currently fourth.
Papaleo also owns a couple of career records. His 36 shutouts doubles the goalie that ranks second, while his 44 wins is also tops all-time. Papaleo ranks third all-time in saves per game with 5.87, while his 229 career saves puts him fifth on the all-time list.
Papaleo went on to play professional soccer for 11 years with the Pittsburgh Spirit of the MISL and the Dallas Sidekicks of the CISL. He is the first inductee in the sport of soccer to be named to the area's Hall of Fame.
