SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The SU women’s soccer team lost a tight fought game to Binghamton, 1-0, Thursday night. The Orange out shot the Bearcats 13-5 and had an 11-2 advantage in corner kick opportunities.
Binghamton scored what would prove to be the game-winner with less than 15 seconds left in the first half when Danielle White fired an outside shot that just slipped over Emily Kowalczyk’s (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville) head in the upper left corner.
Kowalczyk had two saves on the day, while her counterpart, Kristie Bowers made nine saves to earn the shutout victory. The Orange was led offensively by Samantha Hawn (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) who had three shots on the day including one best scoring opportunities when she fired a shot from 20 feet out nearly slipping by Bowers.
With the loss, the Orange drops to 1-2-0 on the season, while the Bearcats improve to 2-0-1. SU will next be in action Monday as they play host to Harvard at 1 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
