New Britain High School To Retire Tebucky Jones’ Number

New Britain, Conn. – Tebucky Jones, former SU tailback and safety, will have his number retired at New Britain High School tonight. Jones is regarded as the most successful football player in the high school’s history. The ceremony will take place at halftime of tonight’s game against Xaverian Brothers.
Jones, who will be in attendance at the ceremony due to the Miami Dolphins’ bye week, rushed for 4,541 yards and 53 touchdowns between 1989-92. He also returned kicks and played safety for the Golden Hurricanes.
At Syracuse, Jones played tailback in his first three seasons before making the transition to safety in his senior season. In that year, he recorded 72 tackles and four interceptions for a team-high 104 return yards. Jones also had team-highs in pass breakups (7), fumble recoveries (3), and blocked kicks (3). His performance earned him Second Team All-BIG EAST honors.
In his career, Jones compiled 101 tackles, 563 rushing yards, and nine touchdowns.
The New England Patriots drafted Jones in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft, and he played five seasons in Foxboro before spending two years with the New Orleans Saints. Currently, Jones is playing for the Miami Dolphins in his eighth NFL season.
Last season, Jones had a career-high 101 tackles for the Saints. He also intercepted a pass for 55 yards, the longest return of his career.
