SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men’s soccer team won its second-consecutive 1-0 decision on Sunday night when it defeated Loyola at the SU Soccer Stadium. Sophomore Brad Peetoom put in a rebound off of a free kick at 70:03 for the game-winner.
In the same fashion as Friday night against Marist, the Orange earned a free kick after a Loyola foul in the 71st minute. Collings blasted a shot, which the goalkeeper saved but could not control. The rebound landed at Peetoom’s feet, who slipped a shot past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Freshman goalkeeper Robert Cavicchia earned his second shutout of the season with three saves. Cavicchia’s counterpart, Justin Chelland, saved five shots.
The Greyhounds best chance came in the first half, when a cross was redirected towards the net, but Cavicchia reacted quickly and stopped the shot.
The win marks the first time that SU won its first two games since 1997. SU hosts its third match in a row at home when Cornell visits SU Soccer Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 7 for a 7:00 p.m. match.
