State College, Pa. – The Syracuse cross country teams were both victorious at the National Open, hosted by Penn State. The men’s team remained undefeated on the season, finishing first of 17 teams, and the SU women won their second-straight meet, placing first of 16 teams.

State College, Pa. – The Syracuse cross country teams were both victorious at the National Open, hosted by Penn State. The men’s team remained undefeated on the season, finishing first of 17 teams, and the SU women won their second-straight meet, placing first of 16 teams.
Sophomore transfer Jeff Scull finished third overall on the men’s side with a time of 25:43. Scull has recorded the top time by an SU runner in each of his three meets with the Orange. Junior Kyle Heath posted his third-straight top 10 finish, placing ninth in 26:04. Freshmen Dan Busby and Jay Koloseus finished 16 and 18th, respectively. Busby finished in 26:16 and Koloseus recorded a time of 26:18.
Sophomore Nana Sang-Bender led the team and finished second overall with a time of 21:22. Junior Liz Cufari was second on the team with a time of 21:46. The freshmen once again contributed towards SU’s success. Maegan Krifchin and Jenna Bieri finished 10th and 11th, respectively. Krifchin recorded a time of 22:04 and Bieri finished right behind her in 22:07.
The men were ranked sixth in the latest USTFCCCA Northeast Regional Poll and finished ahead of fourth-ranked Cornell. The Big Red tied Penn State for second place. The Syracuse women were ranked ninth in latest regional poll.
Both Syracuse cross country teams resume action on Friday, October 20, competing at the Reif Memorial at Cornell. Syracuse will then compete at the BIG EAST Championship on Friday, October 28.
