SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior cornerback Tanard Jackson will be the 51st Syracuse University football player to participate in the Senior Bowl. Jackson will play in the 2007 event on January 27, 2007, in Mobile, Alabama. The game will be broadcast live on the NFL Network.
It will mark the 11th consecutive year for a departing Syracuse senior in the all-star game, which will be played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium with the kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. In 2006, free safety Anthony Smith, who is currently a rookie with the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers, played on the North squad.
In 2006, Jackson recorded 62 tackles, including four and one half for a loss of yards, and had two interceptions, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He played in 45 games for the Orange, including 23 consecutive starts as a junior and senior. Jackson had a career-high 10 tackles and an interception in Syracuse’s 40-34 double-overtime win against Wyoming. Jackson posted seven tackles, including the first solo sack of his career, and forced a fumble against Louisville. In the season-opener at Wake Forest, he intercepted a pass on the Demon Deacons’ first drive of the third quarter, returning it 12 yards.
