Track and Field To Compete In Bucknell Winter Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Orange, coming off of its impressive performance at the Syracuse Invitational last weekend, travels to the Keystone State to compete in the Bucknell Winter Classic on Saturday, Feb. 11, in Lewisburg. SU won 17 individual titles at the SU Invitational at Manley Field House and senior Johvonne Hernandez (Port Isabel, Texas) broke the school’s indoor record in the weight throw.
Hernandez recorded an NCAA Provisional mark of 19.78m in the weight throw and also won the shot put last weekend with a throw of 15.10m. She broke Faith Thompson’s Invitational and Manley Field House record of 19.36m that she set last year. She also topped her own SU indoor record that she set in 2004.
Juniors Aulton Kohn (Beaufort, S.C.) and Sheron Mark (Port of Spain, Trinidad) both dominated their respective events. Kohn won the 60m dash (6.82) for the third time this season and also took home the 200m (21.74). Mark swept the women’s jumping events as she won the long jump with a mark of 5.66m, the triple jump at 12.19m, and the high jump with a mark of 1.70m.
Overall, the men had six winners while the women provided 11. Both sides defeated Binghamton in dual meet competition. The men won 82-60 while the women won 101-42.
After this weekend, SU will gear up for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships. 22 Orange student-athletes have qualified for the meet. The event will be held in Akron, Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Athletics Field House on the campus of the University of Akron.
