SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse women’s tennis team won its third straight match on Sunday afternoon, beating Cornell, 5-2, at the Drumlins Tennis Club. Senior Wei-Ming Leong (Ipoh, Malaysia) led the charge as she posted a 6-2, 6-0 victory at number six singles, while Leong’s doubles partner, junior Katie Bramante (Endwell, N.Y.) was equally impressive. Bramante teamed with Leong to clinch the doubles point for the Orange before later clinching the match with her victory at number three singles.

SU won the doubles point with sophomores Victoria Vaynberg (Princeton, N.J.) and Catherine Zawadzki (Brooklyn, N.Y.) backing up their number 11 East Region ranking, defeating Edinson/Miller of Cornell, 8-4, at number one. Closing out the doubles point for the Orange was Leong/Bramante who won 8-4 at number two, while juniors Ashley Lipton (Saratoga, Calif.) and Carolina Huignard (Don Mills, Ontario) let a 7-4 lead slip away at number three before recovering to win the match, 9-8.
Vaynberg continued her impressive play this season at number one singles by beating Mollie Edinson, 6-4, 6-3. Bramante won her match at number three single, taking the first set 7-5 from Tamara John before breaking John’s serve to win the second 6-2. Lipton earned a three sets victory against Catherine Duboc, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, at number five singles.
SU improves to 5-3 with the triumph, while Cornell is now 3-1. SU will next be in action when it kicks off BIG EAST play on March 3 when it hosts Cincinnati at the Drumlins Tennis Club.
