PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Kathryn Rowan (Delmar, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, announced yesterday by the conference office, for her performance last Saturday against Harvard in SU’s 15-9 season-opening win against the Crimson at the Carrier Dome. In her first collegiate game, Rowan scored four times.
Rowan’s four goals led all scorers on Saturday. She led an SU attack that produced the second-most goals in a season-opener for the Orange. SU scored 17 times against Albany last year and also produced 15 goals against Stanford in 2002.
Rowan and rookie classmate Megan Mosenson (Malvern, Pa.) had a part in eight of Syracuse’s 15 goals. Mosenson added three goals and assisted on another.
In the Orange’s 11-10 overtime win against No. 3 Dartmouth last night, Rowan notched two more goals, both of which put SU in the lead. Her first tally came at the 17:44 mark of the first and put Syracuse up 2-1. Her second goal, and her most important one to date as a member of the Orange, put SU up 10-9 in the first portion of overtime.
Syracuse returns to action on Saturday, March 4 when it takes on No. 7 Virginia in its first road contest of the 2006 season. The women play at noon and are followed by the men’s clash that begins at 3:00 p.m.
