ITHACA, N.Y. – The Orange (29-16) set a new season record for wins sweeping a pair of games at Cornell (21-20) on Wednesday, April 19. SU defeated the Big Red, 6-2, and 6-1 at Niemand Robison Field. SU eclipsed the previous season wins mark of 28 set in 2005.
Sophomore Erin Downey (San Rafael, Calif.) also had a record-setting day. She established a new single-season record for wins, picking up her 18th with a complete game in the opener. Downey allowed two runs, one earned, and struck out six in the contest. She eclipsed the previous mark of 17 wins she shared with Courtney Mosch.

Senior Alexis Switenko (Blue Anchor, N.J.) went 2-for-4 at the plate in both contests to extend her hitting streak to 11 games. Switenko also had a 10-game hitting streak earlier this year. The Big Red got one run back on the sixth on a solo home run by Risica.
Risica had three of Cornell’s six hits in the contest. She also scored both Big Red runs.
In the nightcap, SU continued its offensive onslaught loading the bases in the first and coming away with three runs. Switenko delivered a two-run single in the frame and Kim came home when Switenko was thrown out trying to steal second.
Kim led off the third inning with a solo homer, her fourth of the year, to push SU’s margin to 4-0 and hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to extend the lead to 5-1.
