SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The men's lacrosse team will try to string together two consecutive victories for the first time this season when it entertains #6/5 Princeton at the Carrier Dome on April 8, at 2 p.m. A triumph would be significant for the 2-4 Orange, who must win four of its six remaining regular-season games in order to be eligible for NCAA Tournament consideration (teams selected to the tournament must have a .500 record). A win against the Tigers, who are ranked nine spots higher than the Orange in this week’s STX/USILA Coaches Poll, would give Syracuse a much-needed "quality win" which the NCAA selection committee looks so favorably upon.
The game will be televised by Time Warner Sports and streamed LIVE on Orange All Access. The Syracuse ISP Radio broadcast can be heard through Orange All Access and locally at 1260 AM. SU legend Mikey Powell will make his LIVE television booth debut, helping Mark Larson call all the action.
SU is coming off a 12-6 win against Loyola. Seven different Orange players scored in that game, led by sophomore attackman Mike Leveille’s season-high four goals. First-year starting goaltender Peter Coluccini recorded a career-high 15 saves.
This will be only the second road game of the season for Princeton, who is 5-2 overall, including a 4-2 mark at its own Class of 1952 Stadium. Peter Trombino leads the Tigers in scoring with 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists). Scott Sowanick also has 10 goals on the season, to go along with his eight assists. Princeton has allowed just 40 goals in seven games. The team’s goals against average is 5.71, thanks in large part to the play of goalie Alex Hewit who has started all seven games and has 76 saves and a .679 save percentage.
This will be the 22nd meeting between Syracuse and Princeton. The Orange leads the series, 14-7, and has won five of the last six meetings, including last year’s 10-8 decision in New Jersey.
