PRINCETON, N.J. - The Syracuse track and field team travels to the campus of Princeton University for the ECAC and IC4A Championships this weekend, May 12-14, at the William Weaver Track and Field Stadium. It is the 130th running of the men's IC4A Championship and the 23rd women's ECAC Championship. Action begins on Friday, May 12 at noon, with the decathlon and heptathlon and continues through Sunday afternoon.
Last year the the championships, the women tied for 10th at the ECACs while the men finished 36th in the IC4As. Junior Sheron Mark (Diego Martin, Trinidad) finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.65m and she took fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.04m.
At the indoor championships earlier this year, the women placed sixth and the men finished 15th.
The Orange women are coming off of an impressive third place performance at the BIG EAST Championship last weekend. Senior Johvonne Hernandez (Port Isabel, Texas) won the shot put and finished second in the hammer and discus to earn Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer honors.
Three Syracuse records were broken last weekend as well. Freshman Nana Sang-Bender (Syracuse, N.Y.) broke her own Syracuse 1500m record by placing sixth at 4:28.03. She cracked the record at Carolina Fast Times earlier in the season by clocking in at 4:28.78. Prior to this season, Beth Burchill’s mark of 4:31.76 had stood since 1988.
Sophomores Jillian Drouin (Corunna, Ontario) and Kaity Lambracht (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) finished second and third in the heptathlon, respectively, and both topped the Syracuse record which Drouin set earlier in the season. Drouin totaled a school-record 5287 points and Lambracht finished with 5095 points to finish behind her. Drouin had set the SU record earlier in the season at the Hurricane Invitational.
Mark earned second place in the triple jump with a SU record leap of 12.99m. She beat Aprelle Watkins’ 2002 record by 3.25 inches.
