PRINCETON, N.J. – The Orange women’s track and field team placed fourth out of 46 teams at the 2006 ECAC Championship this weekend at Princeton. Senior Johvonne Hernandez (Port Isabel, Texas) came away with a pair of wins in the hammer and discus throw. Sophomore Jillian Drouin (Corunna, Ontario) broke the Syracuse record in the high jump at 1.81m as she finished second. The men’s team finished 37th out of 54 teams in the IC4A Championship.
Hernandez won the hammer with a throw of 58.21m and the discus at 51.92m. In the shot put, she finished third with a throw of 15.05m.
Drouin established the new school standard in the high jump at 1.81m. She broke Jenna Grimaldi’s old record of 1.80m. Drouin’s mark is also the 13th-best high jump in the country this season.
The women finished fourth behind Pittsburgh, Virginia, and Cornell. On the men’s side, George Mason took the team title with Cornell and Penn taking second and third, respectively.
Senior Tatiana Warren (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had strong performances in the long jump and triple jump. She finished third in the long jump with a leap of 6.13m and fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.37m.
Freshman Nana Sang-Bender (Syracuse, N.Y.) continues to improve on her 1500m record. This time, she placed third with a time of 4:26.56. That skims almost two seconds of the previous mark of 4:28.03 that she set at the BIG EAST Championship.
Junior Katie Simon (West Seneca, N.Y.) placed sixth in the 3000m steeple chase with a time of 10:49.86.
For the men at the IC4As, junior Dan Pribula (Strongsville, Ohio) finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 16.35m and sophomore Marcus Vaughn (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed sixth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.87 seconds.
