PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman Kathryn Rowan (Delmar, N.Y.) and junior Jill DePetris (Radnor, Pa.) were both named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll, announced yesterday by the conference office. This is the second time this season that the pair has been selected to the Honor Roll in the same week. They were also named to the list on April 3.
Against Penn on May 7, Rowan posted her team-leading ninth hat trick of the season. Junior Gaddy Fortune (Long Branch, N.J.) also has nine three-goal performances. Rowan finished the season with 46 goals, a new freshman record, and it ranks third on the SU single-season list. Her 56 points is tied for fourth in a single season at Syracuse and is also the most by an Orange freshman all-time.
Rowan and Fortune combined for four goals against the Quakers, which makes them the most prolific scoring combination in Syracuse history in the same season. Rowan and Fortune amassed 93 goals this season, which surpasses the Orange record of 92 goals set by Leigh-Ann Zimmer and Monica Joines in 2004.
Rowan finished the season ranked sixth in the BIG EAST in goals per game (2.88) and points per game (3.50), tied for first in game-winning goals (four), and tied for eighth in assists per game (0.62).
DePetris matched a pair of career highs against Penn on Sunday. She registered game highs with six ground balls and four caused turnovers. DePetris ended the regular season ranked 15th in the nation in ground balls per game at 3.56. That number was tops in the BIG EAST in the regular season.
