SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse men’s rowing team has released its schedule for the 2006-07 season. The Orange will compete in five events in the fall, including the Head of the Genesee in Rochester, the Head of the Charles in Boston and the Princeton Chase. The Orange will also host its annual Alumni race on October 14 and the Syracuse Fall Race will close out the early schedule on November 4.
After training sessions in Miami and Tampa in January and March, the Orange will open its spring schedule at home against Rutgers in the Ten Eyck Cup on April 14. The Orange will then host Cornell and Navy in the Goes Trophy a week later and have another home race on May 20 against Dartmouth for the Packard Cup. The Orange will be in New York City competing against Boston University and Columbia for the Conlan Cup on April 28. The Eastern Sprints will be held on May 13 and 21 in Worcester, Mass. and the I.R.A. Regatta will take place from May 31 to June 2 in Camden, N.J.
Last season, the Orange finished eighth at the I.R.A Regatta and the varsity eight went undefeated in the regular season and was ranked in the top 10 nationally all year. The Orange returns 12 seniors from last year’s squad and head coach Dave Reischman likes their mindset heading into the season. “They are all eager to graduate with some finals appearances at the Eastern Sprints and the I.R.A. Regatta,” Reischman said. “Our season revolves around the Sprints and the Regatta. Everything else builds us up for those races.” The Orange will host three races this season, returning to its regular form after hosting only one race a year ago. “More and more people have been coming out to the races, from both the school and the local community, which is always good for the team” Reischman commented.
