The Syracuse women’s soccer team lost its second-consecutive game, a 1-0 decision to in-state rival Colgate. Colgate forward Jessica Bitsack scored in the 12th minute for the decisive goal. The win was the second all-time for the Raiders over the Orange.
Bitsack’s goal came off a scramble in front of the net. She settled the ball outside the box and put a shot in the upper left corner. The Raiders outshot the Orange 10-8 in the first half. Freshman Sami Hirsh made her first appearance in goal for the Orange. Hirsh made six saves in the first half and four in the second for a career-high 10.
Syracuse had its best chance to tie the game midway through the second half when sophomore Samantha Hawn took a shot from ten yards out. Colgate goalie Brittany Pearsall dove and got a piece of the ball, deflecting it off the crossbar. Syracuse had 12 shots in the game, led by Hawn who had three.
