New York, N.Y.- The Syracuse women’s tennis team had a strong open to its fall season at the Columbia Invitational from September 15-17. The Orange faced players from Columbia, Penn, St. John’s and Brown over the weekend. Junior Victoria Vaynberg won three of her four dual matches. Junior Olga Votavova won two dual matches in her first competition with the Orange. Senior Katie Bramante and Ashley Lipton, junior Catherine Zawadzki, and sophomore Maria Vasilyeva each won two dual matches as well.
The Orange also won both doubles flights over the weekend. In Flight A doubles, the duo of Vaynberg and Votavova defeated Zivcicova and Adamski of St. John’s in the finals. In Flight B doubles, Lipton and senior Carolina Huignard defeated the Columbia pair of McMenamin and Cordell for the title.
"Victoria played very well for us, Catherine had some good matches," Director of Tennis Operations Mac Gifford said. "It was a chance for us to play against some strong competition and I was very pleased with how they performed."
The Orange continue its fall schedule at the Deacon Classic in Winston-Salem, N.C. next weekend, September 22-24.
