Winston-Salem, N.C.-Junior Victoria Vaynberg won third place in Flight A at the Deacon Classic hosted by Wake Forest on Sunday. Vaynberg beat Ohio State's Julie Blackmore. The first two sets were split, 4-6, 6-3, and Blackmore was leading 2-0 in the third when she had to retire due to injury. Blackmore lost to junior Olga Votavova of Syracuse in the first round of Flight A.
Also in action for the Orange, senior Carolina Huignard defeated Whitney Trotter (East Tennesse State) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, in her match on Sunday.
The Orange will prticipate in the USTA Championship in Flushing Meadows on October 7-9.
