SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Orange men’s soccer team (4-4-3, 1-4-0) returns home to the SU Soccer Stadium for the first time since Sept. 23 for a Saturday night showdown with Red Division rival Cincinnati at 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 13. Live streaming video and audio of the match will be available on SUathletics.com as part of the Orange All Access subscription package.
Saturday’s match is a brief home appearance for the Orange as it hits the road again for two games next week. Head coach Dean Foti's squad is in the midst of playing five of six matches away from home before closing out the regular season with three of its final four games at the SU Soccer Stadium.
WOODRUFF EQUALS WINS
The Orange tends to come out on the winning end of games when sophomore forward Hansen Woodruff (Stuart, Fla.)
Woodruff is averaging 0.52 goals per game through his first 27 matches, which is on pace to rank second on the school’s career goals per game chart (min. 30 games). Woodruff also has 34 career points, good for an average of 1.26 points per contest. That current clip would place him third on SU’s career points per game list (min. 30 games). Almost half of his 14 goals have been game-winners (6).
Woodruff ranks third in the BIG EAST in scoring with 18 points. He trails Connecticut’s O’Brian White and Seton Hall’s Eliseo Giusfredi. Woodruff is tied for second in the conference in goals (7) through 11 games. His seven tallies equals his 2006 season total recorded in 16 matches.
ROWLEY RETURNS
Junior forward Pete Rowley (Reading, Pa.)
CAVICCHIA APPROACHING 200 CAREER SAVES
Junior keeper Robert Cavicchia (North York, Ontario)
ABOUT THE BEARCATS
Cincinnati has struggled on the road this season. The Bearcats are 0-5-1 away from Gettler Stadium, including a 2-1 neutral site loss against Central Florida on Sept. 7. However, the team is unbeaten at home (5-0-0) and has improved to 5-5-1 after losing its first three contests of the season. The Bearcats have 10 points in the league standings and are currently tied for second in the Red Division with St. John’s.
Cincinnati has fielded a fairly consistent lineup all season with six players starting all 11 matches thus far. Senior forwards Kenny Anaba and Patrick Baxter form a potent scoring combination. They rank one and two on the team in points and goals. Anaba is fourth in the conference with 16 points (7g, 2a). Baxter has three goals and two helpers. Lionel Jackson lists second in the BIG EAST with six assists.
The Bearcats have used three goalkeepers this season. Miguel Rosales has received the majority of the playing time, starting 10 games. He owns a 0.78 goals-against average and has 40 saves. He also has three shutouts.
THE SYRACUSE-CINCINNATI SERIES
This will be the third time the Orange and the Bearcats have squared off on the pitch. The series is tied at 1-1 with each team defending its home turf. Syracuse won the first meeting between the two teams in 2005, 2-1. The Bearcats returned the favor with a 3-0 shutout of the Orange at Gettler Stadium last season.
