Orange Lose Dual Meet Against Pittsburgh

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The men and women’s swimming and diving teams both lost their first BIG EAST dual meets of the season when they hosted Pittsburgh on Saturday at Webster Pool. The men (1-1) lost, 154-89, and the women (1-1) lost, 155-86. The men won three events, while the women were victorious in five races.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The men and women’s swimming and diving teams both lost their first BIG EAST dual meets of the season when they hosted Pittsburgh on Saturday at Webster Pool. The men (1-1) lost, 154-89, and the women (1-1) lost, 155-86. The men won three events, while the women were victorious in five races.
Freshman Kuba Kotynia won the 200 IM (1:57.40) and finished second in the 200 breaststroke (2:06.39) just behind Pittsburgh senior Warren Barnes (2:05.29). In the 100 freestyle, the Orange finished one-two when sophomore Ryan Corcoran (48.59) touched first and junior Matt Brock (49.65) came in second. Sophomore Arda Isiksalan added to the win total with a victory in the 200 backstroke (1:52.01)
For the women, freshman Natalie Mazzetta continued her success with victories in the 1,000 freestyle (10:17.36), the 500 freestyle (5:01.97) and the 200 butterfly (2:05.35). Junior Catrina Roth won the 200 backstroke (2:06.13) and sophomore Masha Glukhova finished first in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.73). Freshman Katlin O’Hara was second in the 100 freestyle (53.05), but trailed Pittsburgh junior Stacie Safritt (52.76).
The Orange returns in Webster Pool on Saturday, Nov. 3 when it hosts Boston University. The diving competition begins at 9:00 a.m. and swimming goes at noon.
