SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse men’s rowing team placed at least one boat in the top- six in all three of its races at the Syracuse Invitational held Saturday Nov. 3 on Onondaga Lake. The Orange took first place in the freshman eight and had all three of its boats in the top six of the varsity four “A” flight.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse men’s rowing team placed at least one boat in the top- six in all three of its races at the Syracuse Invitational held Saturday Nov. 3 on Onondaga Lake. The Orange took first place in the freshman eight and had all three of its boats in the top six of the varsity four “A” flight.
The Orange kicked off the day with “A,” “B,” and “C” boats in the varsity four “A” flight. The Orange “A” team had the highest finish, coming in second with a time of 17.11.1. The Syracuse “A” boat was comprised of junior coxswain Jamie Hubbell, junior stroke Martin Etem, senior three seat Bill Della Giustina, senior two seat Ryan Armstrong and junior bow Mike Bagnall. The Orange “B” team placed fifth with a time of 17:28.8, while the “C” team came in sixth with a time of 17:33.1. Sophomore coxswain Dean Jaworski, sophomore stroke Tyson Bry, junior three seat Ryan Planer, senior two seat Ryan Knapp and senior bow Dan Lombardi made up the Syracuse “B” boat. The Orange “C” boat was comprised of freshman coxswain Emily Leister, sophomore stroke Claiborne White, sophomore three seat Ryan Patton, senior two seat John Combs and sophomore bow Peter Kruse.
The “A” team, comprised of coxswain Kenny Marfilius, stroke Mike Gennaro, seven seat Vince Berry, six seat Walker Hannan, five seat Chip Keyes, four seat Dan Turner, three seat Kyle Daughtery, two seat Dan Berry and bow Julian Morrison, was victorious in the freshman eight for the Orange with a time of 15:48.5. The Orange also entered a “B” boat in the 14-team race, which placed 8th with a time of 17:25.1. Coxswain Petty Hodapp, stroke Gerald McNeil, seven seat Matt Hopek, six seat Tim Daigle, five seat Kevin Beargie, four seat Peter Themistocles, three seat Paul DeNicola, two seat Matt Sisk and bow Morgan Nowak rowed in the “B” boat.
Syracuse entered “D” and “E” boats in the 14-boat varsity four “B” flight. The Orange “D” boat, comprised of coxswain Hubbell, senior stroke Mike McHarris, junior three seat Brian Azeff, sophomore two seat Tim Griffin and sophomore bow Tim Rogers, took sixth place with a time of 17:45.4. The “E” boat finished in seventh place with a time of 18:02.1. Coxswain Jaworski, stroke Knapp, three seat Planer, sophomore two seat Cam Mackenzie and sophomore bow Mark Vyzas made up the Orange “E” team.
The Orange returns to the water Nov. 17 to wrap up its fall season at the Foot of the Charles in Boston, Mass.
