TEMPE, Ariz. – The Syracuse University (0-4) softball team went winless in the second day of the Kajikawa Classic, hosted by Arizona State. The Orange was defeated by the RV/- Oregon Ducks, 8-1, in the day’s first game and RV/- Long Beach State, 12-3, in five innings in the finale.

Against the Ducks, the Orange only managed one run.

After surrendering a run in the bottom of the second SU responded by scoring a run of its own in the top of the third as Chanel Roehner doubled to left center to bring home Tonye McCorkle who walked and stole second.

Oregon scored five runs in the bottom of the third and one in the fifth to walk away with the 8-1 victory.

In Saturday’s second game, Syracuse scored three runs in the top of the second to take an early 3-1 lead but surrendered 11 runs in the bottom of the third to break the game open.

Rachel Tilford homered to center field to open the second inning. After a Nicole Miller walk and a Lindsay Wasek sacrifice bunt that advanced Miller to second, Heather Kim doubled to left field and scored Miller. Erin Gray singled out at second, but was able to score Kim for the third run of the inning.

The 49ers came back in the third inning to score 11 runs as Whitney Radcliff, Jessica Beaver and Brooke LaSage, each had two hits against Syracuse as the game was called off after the fifth due to the mercy rule.

Bridgette Pagano went the distance for Long Beach State, striking out five Orange on five hits and two walks.
