The Syracuse women's tennis team (3-7, 1-3 BIG EAST) is back at Drumlins this weekend to host the Missouri Tigers (5-7) of the Big 12 in a dual match on Saturday, March 24, at 11 a.m. The Orange has not played a dual match since it beat Brown, 4-3, on Sunday, March 4.
Syracuse outlasted the Bears in its last dual match, winning four singles matches to claim the victory and snap a four-match losing streak. Junior Olga Votavova and sophomroe Maria Vasilyeva won the first two singles matches and seniors Carolina Huignard and Ashley Lipton won the final two to claim the match for the Orange, its second against an Ivy League opponent this year.
Lipton is currently in eighth place on Syracuse's all-time wins list with 137 career triumphs. She needs six wins to pass Shervin Saedinia for seventh place and 14 wins to crack the top five. Votavova leads the Orange with eight singles victories this season and has won five of her last six matches. Vasilyeva is second on the team with five singles victories, including four of her last five. The duo also leads SU with five doubles wins together.
Missouri was ranked 75th in the Fila/ITA poll two weeks ago, but the Tigers have los their last four matches, including one to Louisville, 5-2. None of the Tigers have a singles record above .500. Missouri has beaten Syracuse in the only two meetings between the schools.
