Kim’s Four RBI Propel Orange to 6-4 Win

Providence, R.I. – The Syracuse University softball team (10-20, 3-1) scored three runs in the top of the seventh and sophomore Heather Kim recorded four RBI as the Orange defeated the Connecticut University Huskies (11-8, 1-1) 6-4 on March 26 at Raymond Field on the campus of Providence College.

Junior RHP Chanel Roehner pitched six innings to record her fifth victory of the season and freshman Brittany Gardner closed the contest, earning her third save of the year.

The Huskies loaded the bases in the first, but only scored one run. The Orange ended the inning on a great throw by freshman leftfielder Ev Anderson to nail sophomore catcher Kim Weinstein at the plate.

The Orange took a 2-1 lead in the third with a two-out two-run home run to center field by Kim that scored sophomore Nicole Miller.

SU pushed the score to 3-1 in the sixth with a RBI single by Roehner that scored Kim.

UConn’s Micah Truax, who hit a three-run home run yesterday, did it again. She repeated the feat with a three-run home run to leftfield in the bottom of the sixth to give the Huskies a 4-3 advantage.

A single by sophomore Tonye McCorkle scored freshman Whitney Born to tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh. Kim then doubled to center field to bring home Anderson and McCorkle, giving SU the 6-4 win.

Connecticut did load the bases in the bottom-half of the inning, where Gardner ended it with a lineout.

Syracuse returns to the diamond on Saturday, March 31 with a twin bill at DePaul that begins at noon.
