Princeton, N.J. – Junior Kyle Heath set a school record in the 3,000m steeplechase and qualified for the NCAA Regional to lead an impressive evening for the Orange distance runners. A total of four runners qualified for the NCAA Regional and six additional student-athletes earned an invitation to the IC4A/ECAC Championship.

A total of four runners qualified for the NCAA Regional and six additional student-athletes earned an invitation to the IC4A/ECAC Championship.
Heath won the 3,000m steeplechase in 8:56.92. He topped Jim McMaster’s record of 9:14.1 by nearly 20 seconds. McMaster’s time had stood as the mark to beat for the past 26 years. Freshman Curtis Bixler also qualified for the IC4A Championship in the event, placing sixth with a time of 9:16.00.
The 3,000m steeplechase was also a successful event for the SU women. Both senior Katie Simon and freshmen Lynne Mundy posted NCAA Regional times in the event. Simon finished third with a time of 10:40.70 while Mundy placed fifth in 10:47.93.
Sophomore Nana Sang-Bender was the fourth SU student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA Regional. Sang-Bender placed sixth in the 1,500m run with a time of 4:27.57. Senior Amanda Hicks and freshman Maegan Krifchin also earned invitations to the ECAC Championship with their performances in the event. Hicks placed 12th with a mark of 4:32.79 and Krifchin was right behind, placing 13th in 4:32.88.
Junior Liz Cufari also earned a spot at the ECAC Championship. Cufari placed fifth in the 5,000m run with a time of 17:15.08. The freshmen duo of Daniel Busby and Brad Miller qualified for the IC4A Championship in their respective events. Miller finished 21st in the 1,500m run with a time of 3:50.84, while Busby placed sixth in the 5,000m run with a time of 14:28.35.
The rest of the SU runners are in action on Saturday, competing in the second day of the Larry Ellis Invitational.
