While there is quite a bit of time before the Orange opens the 2008 season, Syracuse is already being discussed as a possible national championship team. Inside Lacrosse ranked the Orange fourth in the country during in its off-season rankings. SU returns eight starters from a 2007 team that had the most successful year in school history.

Syracuse won a school-record 13 games in 2007 and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals for the first time in school history. The Orange also won its first BIG EAST regular-season championship, won the inaugural BIG EAST Championship Tournament with its first-ever victory against perennial-power Georgetown and won its first-ever NCAA Tournament game. In addition, the SU offense scored a school-record 288 goals in 2007, crushing the previous standard of 205 goals.
