ORANGE IN HOME OPENERS
Sunday’s game marks the Orange’s latest home-opening date since 1999 when SU began its home slate on Sept. 17 against Georgetown. Since the 1975 season, Syracuse is 25-7 in home openers and 9-2 in home starters since the SU Soccer Stadium opened in 1996.
SU LOVES NEW YORK
HOME SWEET HOME
The Orange has posted a winning record at the SU Soccer Stadium in nine of its first 11 seasons at the facility. SU went 6-4-2 at home in 2005, matching the team season record for wins at the stadium and was 5-4 there in 2006. The Orange has won six contests at the facility three times (1996, 1998, 2005) and owns an overall SU Soccer Stadium record of 51-38-7. The team recorded its 50th Soccer Stadium victory against Hartwick on Oct. 10, 2006.
Prior to the opening of the building, the Orange played its home games at Coyne Field and the Carrier Dome. During the Orange’s magical run to the 1982 BIG EAST title it won a school record nine home contests, going 3-0 at Coyne Field and 6-2 in the friendly confines of the Dome. The Orange is 146-70-21 since 1980 in games contested in Syracuse.

ABOUT THE RAMS
Fordham is currently in the midst of a six-game road swing. It’s last home contest was a 2-1 loss to Loyola on Sept. 2. After its match in Syracuse, the Rams will travel to Delaware, Lehigh and Manhattan before returning to home to face Adelphi on Oct. 7. Fordham is currently 1-3-0 overall and 0-2 on its current road trip.
Dean Stanic has been head coach Jim McElderry’s top offensive threat. He has three of the team’s five goals in 2007 and leads the club with six points. All three of his scores came against Marist in the season-opener, a game the Rams won, 3-1. The only other multiple-point scorers are Kevin Meyer (1g, 1a = 3 pts.) and Chris Paolino (1g = 2 pts.). Meyer’s only goal of the year came on a penalty kick against Loyola.
Goalkeepers Justin Burse and Dan Hajducky have split time in net with each starting two games and playing 180 minutes. Burse has been much more successful, recording a 1.50 goals-against average and a .625 percentage. He is 1-1. On the other hand, Hajducky owns a 3.50 GAA, a .417 save percentage and is 0-2. Both players each have five saves.
THE SYRACUSE-FORDHAM SERIES
The match marks the first time since 1989 the Orange and Rams have met on the pitch. Syracuse holds a 4-1 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams played every year from 1985-89. The Orange has out-scored the Rams, 14-7, in the five meetings, including a 5-1 triumph the last time they played in 1989. Only one match has gone into overtime. That was the first pairing back in 1985. Syracuse prevailed in that one, 3-2. Fordham’s only win in the series was in 1988, by the score of 3-2.
