SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The 26th-ranked Orange men and the SU women’s cross country teams return to action Friday at the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
“This is what we’ve been working towards for the past two-and-a-half years” said third-year Syracuse head coach Chris Fox. “We’re well-prepared and we’re excited. This is will be a real test to see where we are.”
The Syracuse men’s team, led by junior Northeast All-Region selection Jeff Scull, arrives at Lehigh with its first national ranking in program history. The Orange women, led by junior All- BIG EAST and all-region honoree Nana-Sang Bender, are also receiving votes for the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s (USTFCCCA) national poll.
The Orange men and women are riding high following two first-place finishes at the Boston College Invitational on September 14. Sang-Bender and senior Kyle Heath finished second and third, respectively, as SU swept the field of competition on both sides.
Following the Paul Short Invitational, the SU men and women will enjoy a two-week hiatus before the National Open on Friday, October 12 at Penn State. One day later, the Orange will preview the site of the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Ind. for the Pre-Nationals Invitational on Saturday, October 13.
