SYRACUSE, NY -- Pete Moore has been promoted to director of athletic communications and Brian Beacham and Kevin Zalaznik have been named athletic communications interns, according to Sue Cornelius Edson, assistant director of athletics for communications.
Beacham spent the past year as a media relations graduate extern at Temple University, his alma mater. He was the primary contact for the field hockey, softball, fencing and men’s and women’s gymnastics teams. Beacham also assisted with football, and men’s and women’s basketball. He earned an undergraduate degree in sport and recreation management from Temple in 2006. Beacham was a student assistant in the medial relations office while a student at Temple. Beacham will be the primary media contact for volleyball, cross country, track and field, and women’s tennis at Syracuse. He will also assist with men’s basketball and men’s lacrosse.
Zalaznik graduated from Ithaca College in May. He earned a B.S. degree in sports information and communication. He was a student assistant in the sports information office at Ithaca and worked with the men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey and baseball teams. At Syracuse he will be the primary media contact for women’s soccer, softball, swimming and diving, and will assist with the football and women’s basketball programs.
Moore has served as associate director of athletic communications at Syracuse since 2001. He was hired in 1998 as an assistant director. He is the primary media contact for the men’s basketball program, he assists with the football program, and supervises the interns and student volunteers in the athletic communications office. Beacham is responsible for working with the Orange volleyball, tennis cross country and track and field programs, in addition to assisting with men's basketball, men's lacrosse and football. Zalaznik works with Syracuse's women's soccer, softball and men's and women's swimming and diving programs, and also assists with football and women's basketball.
A past-president of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Moore spent 11 years on the CoSIDA Board of Directors. He was inducted into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame in 1998 and earned the association’s Warren Berg Award one year later. He is a past-president of the Eastern College Athletic Conference-Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA), and served on its board for six years. In June 2001 he received the ECAC-SIDA Irving Marsh Award.
In 2003 Moore served as the media coordinator for the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship. He was a member of the NCAA Final Four Media Coordination Committee and worked the 1999, 2000 and 2002 events. He came to Syracuse from Ithaca College where he worked as the director of sports information for 12 years. Under his guidance, the office received 77 CoSIDA publication awards, including 24 Best in the Nation awards. Moore served as the media coordinator for NCAA Division III Championships in 12 different sports at Ithaca.
Moore graduated from Ashland College in 1981 with a degree in physical education. He was an assistant basketball coach at his alma mater from 1979-82. In 1982, Moore became the sports information director at Ashland, a post he held for one year before taking on the same position at Kansas Newman College. Moore was also the assistant basketball coach and director of college relations at Kansas Newman before moving to Ithaca in 1986.
Moore was inducted into the Ithaca College Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. He is a member of the United States Basketball Writers Association and the Football Writers Association. Moore and his wife, Lisa, an assistant athletics director at Syracuse, have a daughter, Hannah, and a son, Jack.
