Orange Wins Fourth Annual Copa Coqui

PUERTO RICO – The swimming and diving team had six first place finishes en route to winning the title at the Fourth Annual Copa Coqui on Saturday, Jan. 5. The Orange, which finished with 188 team points, competed against a handful of NCAA Division I schools as well as several international universities. Laval finished second with 156 points and Bucknell was third with 112 points.
The women had four student-athletes claim first in events and junior Sarah Manning earned the Orange's first win of the day when she touched in 2:13.80 in the 200-meter freestyle.
Sophomore Katelyn Schumacher won the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:07.26, while classmate Carolyn Delkus took first in the 50-meter freestyle, touching in 28.04. Freshman Natalie Mazzetta won the 200-meter IM with a time of 2:32.62.
The men had three top finishes and junior Alex Taraskin followed Manning with a win in the 200-meter freestyle. He swam the event in 2:02.17. Sophomore Boldizsar Kiss won the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:00.08.
Next up for the swimming and diving team is a meet at Seton Hall on Saturday, Jan. 26. The diving competition begins at 9 a.m. and the swimming events follow at noon.
