SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Lindsey Conrad (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) scored a pair of goals as the second-ranked Syracuse Orange field hockey team defeated No. 20 American, 3-1, today at J.S. Coyne Stadium. The Orange remains the nation’s lone undefeated team at 14-0, while American moves to 6-6.
“American gave a great fight and pressured us really hard,” head coach Ange Bradley said. “They are a tough team to play, but we fought through and were fortunate to win the battle.”
Conrad broke the 0-0 stalemate at 20:05 when she created room in the shooting circle before finding the back of the cage. It would be the only score of the half with the Orange taking four shots and American two. The Eagles were awarded two corners to SU’s one.
The sophomore found back of the cage again at 58:12, scoring on her own rebound after a Syracuse penalty corner.
Freshman back Martina Loncarica (Buenos Aires, Argentina) added an insurance goal with one minute remaining.
The Eagles scored as time expired to put the final tally at 3-1.
Senior goalkeeper Heather Hess (Lititz, Pa.) made four saves to move into fifth on SU’s career saves list with 321.
The Orange outshot the Eagles, 18-8, and held an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners.
