SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Peter Hill (Pittsford, N.Y.) is the Syracuse University Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the week of October 12, 2008.
The Syracuse men’s soccer team earned its third BIG EAST win against DePaul, sixth overall, by a 1-0 score Saturday night at the SU Soccer Stadium. Hill, who has started 36 straight games for the Orange defense, is a pivotal part of the SU backline that has shutout eight opponents in 13 contests in 2008.
Syracuse’s eight shutouts this year is the most for an Orange team since 1989 (10) and is tied for sixth on team’s single-season shutout list.
Hill, a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team member, scored his first collegiate goal against Loyola his freshman season and recorded the first assist of his career against Albany that same year. Hill has anchored the Orange to 19 total shutouts through his two and half seasons as a junior.
Hill, who is majoring in general studies, and the rest of the Orange soccer squad takes on Adelphi in SU’s final non-conference match before they face three BIG EAST opponents to close out the regular season. The game against Adelphi is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium on Tuesday night. The Orange’s final home game is on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. against #13/14 Louisville.
