SU Records Two Top-10 Finishes at Princeton Chase

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Syracuse women’s rowing squad returned to the water at the Princeton Chase. The Orange entered six boats; four in the women’s varsity open four and two in the women’s varsity open eight. The varsity eight A boat (Bow- Katie Lynch, 2-Jess Tacinelli, 3-Sydney Axson, 4-Heidi Bulk, 5-Rachael Ogundiran, 6-Natalie Mastracci, 7-Kaitlin Grant, Stroke-Liz Henwood, Coxswain-Kate Todd) placed eighth with a time of 15:36.335.

“It was a very exciting race and it felt really good,” Bulk said. We had good rhythm. We are staying really positive as a team in the really good to see our hard work pay off.”

Yale took first and second in the women’s varsity open eight with times of 15:12.853 and 15:13.243, respectively. The SU varsity eight b boat (Bow-Christine DePompeo, 2-Anne van Houten, 3-Mary-Ellen Anderson, 4-Sarah Stapp, 5-Susan Groff, 6-Allison Ehrke, 7-Julia Ruskin, Stroke-Jacque Lee, Coxswain-Lydia Wong) finished 27th with a time of 16:35.783.

The varsity four A boat (Bow- Katie Lynch, 2-Natalie Mastracci, 3- Sydney Axson, Stroke- Liz Henwood, Coxswain-Lydia Wong) placed ninth in 17:48.189 and SU’s varsity four B boat (Bow- Sarah Stapp, 2-Susan Groff, 3-Rachael Ogundiran, Stroke- Heidi Bulk, Coxswain-Kate Todd) finished 11th in 17:53.999.

Princeton won the race with a time of 17:01.097. The Orange varsity four C boat (Bow- Julia Ruskin, 2-Allison Ehrke, 3-Jess Tacinelli, Stroke- Kaitlin Grant, Coxswain-Emily White) placed 17th with a time of 18:15.659 and the varsity four D boat (Bow- Christine DePompeo, 2- Anne van Houten, 3- Mary-Ellen Anderson, Stroke- Jacque Lee, Coxswain-Mikela Almeida) placed 22nd with a time of 18:27.881.

The Orange returns the water on Saturday, November 1 as it hosts the annual Syracuse Invitational.
