SYRACUSE, N.Y. – On Friday, October 31, the Syracuse University ice hockey team will host its first home game at the Tennity Ice Pavilion starting at 7 p.m.
Admission to all home games at Tennity Ice Pavilion will be free to the general public. Due to current bleacher capacity, only 450 spectators will be allowed into the game.
There will be two primary lots in which spectators can park, both located off of Skytop Road on South Campus. The first option is the parking lot behind the SU Softball Stadium fence. Cars can turn left on Lambreth Lane and then use the sidewalk that leads to the front door of the facility. Fans can also park in the 621 Skytop lot, just past Tennity Ice Pavilion to the left off of Skytop Road.
In celebration of SU's historic day, kids will be able to skate with Otto before the game and in between periods during Friday night's contest on Tennity Ice Pavilion' auxiliary rink. Parents will be able to rent skates at the front office. Otto will be available to skate with the children prior to the game starting at 6 p.m.
In an effort to support Syracuse's first home ice hockey game in school history, the 'Student Athletes Across Borders' (SAAB) organization is hosting the 'Stick-or-Treat' event starting at 6:30 p.m.
SAAB will be in attendance during the game on Halloween night and will have a number of activities planned for children in attendance. There will be games set up on the concourse and a chance to win prizes for creative Halloween costumes. During the game, the student-organization will pass out Halloween candy to those in attendance.
In addition to the entertainment put on for any children at the game, SAAB has organized a pumpkin carving contest for the other varsity teams within the athletics department. The winner of the best pumpkin will be announced during the game that night.
Powered by goals from Syracuse's co-captains Julie Rising (Millbrae, Calif.) and Stefanie Marty (Nussbaumen, Switzerland) coupled with Lucy Schoedel's (Ithaca, N.Y.) first shutout as the Orange goaltender, the SU ice hockey team heads into its first home contest fresh off of its landmark first victory at Quinnipiac on Oct. 18 a by means of a 2-0 score. Head coach Paul Flanagan earned his 231st career NCAA victory which ranks third for most wins in the country
Syracuse's first home game starts at 7 p.m. against Sacred Heart. SU combats the Pioneers again on Saturday, November 1, at 2 p.m. at Tennity Ice Pavilion.
