
Orange Loses at Villanova, 3-0

VILLANOVA, Pa. -- The Syracuse women’s soccer team lost to Villanova, 3-0, on Sunday, Oct. 5 in Villanova, Pa. The Orange’s record goes to 4-5-2 overall and 1-1- in the BIG EAST, while Villanova improves to 10-3 overall, 3-2 in league play.
Syracuse controlled the action in the first half, outshooting Villanova, 7-3, but couldn’t get a shot past Wildcats’ goalkeeper Molly Williams, who recorded five saves.
The Wildcats scored the game’s first goal 1:48 into the second half when Kaitlin Ryan scored on a fast break on a through ball from Justine Wollner. Villanova extended its lead on Grace Hawkins goal in the 75th minute, and Erin Hardiman closed out the scoring with a goal in the 83rd minute for the 3-0 final.
“We dominated the first half,” said Syracuse head coach Phil Wheddon. “In the second half, we lost our discipline. We had three breakdowns and Villanova took advantage of its opportunities.”
Villanova held a 13-9 advantage in shots, while Syracuse had four corner kicks to two for the Wildcats. Orange goalkeeper Eliza Bennett-Hattan recorded four saves, while Williams finished with seven.
Syracuse returns to the SU Soccer Stadium, where it is unbeaten this season, on Friday to host South Florida at 7 p.m.
