CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Senior goalie Robert Cavicchia (North York, Ontario) earned more recognition on Tuesday, Oct. 7 for his performance in SU’s 0-0 tie at #9/13 USF. Cavicchia was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) co-Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending on Oct. 5. He shared the award with Karsten Smith of American University.
The reigning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, Cavicchia recorded his seventh shutout of the season last Friday against the Bulls. He made a season-high eight saves in the contest, including one in the second overtime to preserve the draw. His play helped the Orange end the Bulls’ five-game winning streak and put the first blemish on their previously perfect conference record.
For the season, Cavicchia has played all 970:23 in goal for the Orange. He has 43 saves, a 0.46 goals-against average and has powered the Orange to seven shutouts in its first 10 games. SU’s seven blankings are the most for an Orange squad since 1994.
Quinnipiac senior midfielder was chosen as the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week.
Syracuse returns to action tonight when it faces #8/5 St. John’s at 7:30 p.m. at Belson Stadium in Queens.
