Syracuse Swims Through Day Two Of S.C. Nationals

Atlanta, Ga. – Eight members of the Syracuse University swimming team competed in nine events during day two of the 2008 ConocoPhillips U.S. Short Course Nationals hosted by Georgia Tech. The Orange swimmers are competing alongside members of the 2008 U.S. Olympic swim team.
Sophomore Kuba Kotynia put in a strong effort for the Orange men. He finished the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 56.19 and was the first sub for the finals. Junior Arda Isiksalan and sophomore Berk Kahraman both swam the men’s 100 Back. Isiksalan finished in 50.58 seconds, while Kahraman finished soon after with a time of 51.21. Competing in the 100 Fly for the men was junior Boldiszar Kiss. He earned a time of 51.05. Rounding out the individual men’s performances was junior Alex Taraskin who swam the 200 Free at a clip of 1:42.66.
Senior Catrina Roth competed in the 100 Back for the SU women. She finished with a time of 56.45. Senior Sarah Manning and sophomore Natalie Mazzetta both swam the 200 free. Manning finished in 1:53.68 and Mazzetta touched the wall in 1:54.82. Mazzetta also swam in the 400 IM. She swam the event in 4:31.61.
Two Orange relay teams swam in today’s preliminaries. For the women, Roth, senior Dani Stein, Mazzetta and sophomore Katlin O’Hara swam in the 4x100 Medley and finished in 3:53.78. The men’s team of Kahraman, Kotynia, Kiss and Taraskin also swam the 4x100 Medley with a time of 3:21.17.
More Orange swimmers will be in action tomorrow in the final and third day of the S.C. Nationals. The morning session begins at 9:30 a.m. and the finals begin at 6 p.m. Event results can be found at USASwimming.org and a webcast of all event finals is available on Swimnetwork.com.
