Syracuse Starts Up Indoor Season at Cornell

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – After a strong all-around performance from last year's team, the Syracuse University men's and women's track & field squad returns for its 2008-08 indoor debut at the Cornell Relays on Saturday, December 6.
Saturday's event will take place at Barton Hall in Ithaca, N.Y.
Last season, the Orange turned in eight all-BIG EAST performances and three individual event titles at the 2008 conference meet in Philadelphia.
Graduates Jillian Drouin (heptathlon), Kyle Heath (3000m steeplechase), Aulton Kohn (100m dash), Kaity Lambracht (heptathlon), Sheron Mark (triple jump and long jump), sophomore Flings Owusu-Agyapong (100m dash) and senior Ramon Sosa (110m hurdles) represented the eight all-conference finishes.
In regards to the individual championships, Kohn lifted the 100m crown with a time of 10.46, joining graduates Kyle Heath and Drouin. Drouin repeated as the heptathlon champion with an NCAA Automatic-qualifying total of 5,554 points. Heath posted the top time in the men’s 3000m steeplechase, clocking in at 8:57.39.
There were also four Orange tracksters that qualified for the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship last year. Graduate Kaity Lambracht and Heath competed in the heptathlon and 3,000m run, respectively. Sosa and Drouin also donned the Orange uniform in Des Moines last summer. Sosa took part in the 110-meter hurdles and Drouin earned a spot in both the high jump and heptathlon.
Heath set the Syracuse school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 8:38.03 for a sixth-place finish at the 2008 Men and Women’s Division I Outdoor Track and Field NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. The Farmington, N.Y. native became Syracuse’s first distance runner All-American since Jim O’Connell in 1983. Heath also won the 2008 BIG EAST Championship and IC4A title in the steeplechase.
Senior Jeff Scull was named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Men’s Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-America Second Team. Scull finished third in the 5,000m run with a time of 14:17.42 at the IC4As and eighth at the BIG EAST Championship with a time of 14:38.94. The Jordan Station, Ontario native also ran the 10,000m run in 29:57.04, for a fifth-place finish at the BIG EAST Championship.
Five Orange members were named to the 2008 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Associations (USTFCCCA) Division I Outdoor Track and Field All-East Region Team. Senior Bernard Bush, Drouin, Sosa, Heath, Scull collected the regional laurels. Drouin was a three-time all-region selection, earning her spot with a high jump mark of 1.84m at the NCAA East Regional. Sosa's first appearance was garnered through a 13.88 beat in the 110-meter hurdles at the East Regional. Scull chiseled his name on the list for the second time with a 14:14.36 in the 5,000-meter run at the East Regional. Bush aired out a 7.35 meter mark in the long jump at the same race for his first merit.
