Orange Ranked Fifth in IWLCA Poll

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Orange women's lacrosse teams begins the season ranked No. 5 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll released on Tuesday, February 19. It marks Syracuse's highest first-week ranking in school history.
Three-time defending champion Northwestern is ranked No. 1, followed by Virginia. The Orange hosts Northwestern on Monday, March 24, and plays at Virginia on Saturday, March 1. Duke comes in at No. 3, followed by North Carolina at No. 4.
Six of Syracuse's 2008 opponents are ranked in the first weekly poll, including three BIG EAST Conference foes. In addition to Northwestern and Virginia, the Orange will face No. 10 Georgetown, No. 11 Notre Dame and No. 20 Rutgers. SU will host No. 17 Dartmouth in the Carrier Dome on Sunday, February 24. In addition, Hofstra, the Orange's opponent on March 9, is receiving votes.
The Orange opens the 2008 campaign on Wednesday, February 20 against Canisius at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. Admission is free.
