STOCKTON, Calif. – The California Cougars of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) have signed former Syracuse University standout Aaron Bonser (Fairport, N.Y.). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Bonser is the third recent SU player with ties to the Cougars. Former Orange defender Ryan Hall (1999-02) is in his second full season with California, and the Cougars recently selected Bonser’s classmate Brad Peetoom (Abbotsford, British Columbia) in the second round of the MISL Draft.
In addition to Bonser, the Cougars also announced the signing of midfielder Majell Aterado.
“These guys are young kids that will bring a lot of speed and enthusiasm to the team,” Cougars head coach Bernie Lilavois said of Bonser and Aterado. “We’ll use them mostly for their speed, their physical style of play and the energy they bring to the team.”
Bonser played in 65 games along SU’s back line during his collegiate career. He started all 18 matches for the Orange in 2007 and contributed to six shutouts.
Most recently, Bonser spent time with CNY United of the PASL’s Mid-Atlantic Division. He played for the Cougars during their exhibition match against the PASL All-Stars on Feb. 10, 2008.
