SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore Maegan Krifchin and placed third in the 1,000m run and senior Ramon Sosa posted a 12th-place finish in the 60m hurdles on Friday at the 8th Annual New Balance Collegiate Invitational, held at the Armory Track in New York, N.Y.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore Maegan Krifchin and placed third in the 1,000m run and senior Ramon Sosa posted a 12th-place finish in the 60m hurdles on Friday at the 8th Annual New Balance Collegiate Invitational, held at the Armory Track in New York, N.Y.
Krifchin totaled a BIG EAST and ECAC-qualifying time of 2:54.79 seconds en route to the third-place finish. Friday night marked the sophomore’s first 1,000m run of the indoor season after finishing first (10:00.29) in the 3,000m run at the Cornell Upstate Challenge and 10th (4:56.80) in the one-mile run at the Penn State National Open.
Sosa’s efforts thus far during the 2007-08 indoor season paid dividends with the passing week, as the senior was named Syracuse’s BIG EAST/Aéropostale Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the ECAC Division I Track Athlete of the Week. He tallied a BIG EAST and IC4A-qualifying time of 7.95 seconds in Friday’s 60m hurdles finals. Sosa has posted four NCAA Provisional-qualifying performances in the event, sprinting to a career-best 7.82 seconds and first-place finish at the Penn State National Open.
Several members of the Orange competed Friday night at the Armory Track, but did not advance past the preliminary round. Junior Skyy Simmons posted a time of 49.31 seconds in the 400m, while classmate Terry Marshall recorded a time of 8.42 seconds in the 60m hurdles.
Freshman Sham Lewis made his Orange indoor debut with a time of 6.99 seconds in the 60m dash.
Freshman Flings Owusu-Agyapong saw her first action since the Syracuse Welcome Back meet on January 12, posting a time of 7.57 seconds in the 60m dash. Freshman Lareea Chisholm tallied a time of a 7.75 seconds in the 60m dash.
Syracuse returns to action on Saturday for day-two of the New Balance Collegiate Invitational. The Orange will also be represented on Saturday at the Cornell Open.
