NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Canadian U-23 National Team’s bid for the Olympic Games came up short Thursday night at LP Field. The Canucks lost, 3-0, to the U.S. in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Canada needed to win against the U.S. in order to qualify for the 2008 Summer Games.
Syracuse junior forward Kyle Hall (Toronto, Ontario) played in his fourth game for Canada, entering the match versus the U.S. in the 30th minute. Hall finished the tournament with one goal. He tallied the deciding score against Guatemala Sunday to propel Canada into the semis.
MLS star Freddy Adu scored twice Thursday to lead the Americans, who will now face Honduras in the championship match. Honduras advanced on penalty kicks, 6-5, over Guatemala. By virtue of their semifinal victories, the U.S. and Honduras have automatically qualified for this summer’s Olympics.
