INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second consecutive academic year, the Syracuse men and women's cross country teams have been tabbed NCAA Division I Academic Performance Rate (APR) public recognition award-winners. The Orange harriers boasted a multi-year APR score in the top 10 percent of teams in Division I cross country.
“Chris Fox's leadership has been exemplary on the track and off,” said Syracuse Director of Athletics Dr. Daryl Gross. “The cross country program is the best it has ever been and is particularly well rounded. The classroom success has been extraordinary. We have great student-athletes, with amazing character and work ethic, who strive to be the best.”
The Orange men and women are two of 66 programs to earn the scholastic honor. Syracuse is just one of four BIG EAST affiliates to claim the accolade in cross country. Additionally, the Orange is the only conference member to be represented by both the men and women programs.
“We as coaches do all we can to help the team become great athletes, but this award shows how highly motivated they are off the track,” said third-year Syracuse head coach Chris Fox. “This award truly belongs to the student-athletes.”
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. High-performing teams receiving awards posted APR scores ranging from 965 to a perfect 1,000.
