SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men and women’s track & field teams resume the 2008 outdoor season on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5 at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. and the Sam Howell Memorial Invitational in Princeton, N.J. Syracuse opened the 2008 outdoor campaign on March 28 at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange men and women’s track & field teams resume the 2008 outdoor season on Friday, April 4 and Saturday, April 5 at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. and the Sam Howell Memorial Invitational in Princeton, N.J. Syracuse opened the 2008 outdoor campaign on March 28 at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
“Stanford presents a terrific opportunity for some of our distance runners to meet their qualifying times,” said third-year Syracuse head coach Chris Fox. “The track is set up to be fast and we’re looking to take full advantage. Princeton is also a great chance for our student-athletes to reach their event’s standard mark.”
The Sam Howell Memorial Invitational begins on Friday at 4:00 p.m. with the women’s hammer throw. The track events commence at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s steeplechase. Saturday's session begins at 11:00 a.m. with the men's hammer throw. Click here for a full meet schedule.
The Stanford Invitational, annually featuring some of the top collegiate performers, produced a record 316 regional qualifiers in 2007. The meet begins on Friday morning at 8:45 a.m. (PT). Video coverage of the Stanford Invitational can be accessed by clicking here.
The Orange is coming off a strong showing at North Carolina State, led by graduate Aulton Kohn and senior Kyle Heath. Kohn posted an NCAA-provisional mark with the field’s third-ranked time (10.55) in the preliminary heat of the 100m dash on day one. On Saturday, Kohn finished fourth in the 200m dash invitational with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 21.83 seconds.
Heath continued his stellar close to the indoor season with a quality performance in the outdoor opener. He finished second in the section II 1500m run, behind professional runner Samuel Burley of Asics, with an IC4A-qualifying time of 3:49.11. Heath concluded the indoor season with a school-record performance in the one-mile run with a time of 4:01.68.
Heath joined teammates Dan Busby, Jay Koloseus and Jordan Davis with a school-record time of 15:35.16 in the 4x1500m relay. The third-place finish eclipsed the former Orange standard established in 1981 by Charlie Bevier, Jim O’Connell, Larry Kirk and Kenneth Heinrich. Busby finished first in the section I 1500m with a time of 3:57.47.
Rookie Flings Owusu-Agyapong finished third in the 100m dash finals with a time of 12.04 seconds. She qualified for the event’s title run with an ECAC-qualifying time of 11.94 seconds in the preliminary heat.
In field events, sophomore Lorraine Hill charged the Orange with a seventh-place finish and ECAC-qualifying distance of 41.92m in the javelin.
In relay action, the 4x100m team of Kohn, senior Ramon Sosa, junior Terry Marshall and freshman Shamel Lewis qualified for the IC4A Championship with a 12th-place finish and time of 42.25 seconds.
