SUNRISE, Fla. – Former Syracuse University soccer standout Patrice Bernier is currently training with the Canadian National Team in preparation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Team Canada embarks on a two-match set on June 15 against Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The Canadians must win both games to advance to Stage III of the qualifiers.
Bernier was part of Coach Dale Mitchell’s squad that lost a 3-2 decision to Brazil in a friendly held on May 31. Bernier entered the match in the 82nd minute and played the remainder of the contest.
At Syracuse, Bernier was a member of the NSCAA All-Region First Team in 1999 and was a BIG EAST All-Rookie Team choice in 1998. He scored 16 points in 1998 and tallied 18 in 1999 for a total of 34 career points. Bernier started all 38 games of his career and he ranks seventh all-time in points per game at 0.89.
