DES MOINES, IOWA – Syracuse senior Kyle Heath finished fifth in Heat 1 of the 3,000-meter steeplechase semifinals at the 2008 Men and Women’s Division I Outdoor Track and Field NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Heath’s time of 8:49.90 was the tenth best of the day qualified him for Friday’s final at 8:40 p.m.

Heath’s time of 8:49.90 was the tenth best of the day qualified him for Friday’s final at 8:40 p.m.
Heath owns the Syracuse school record in the steeplechase with a time of 8:48.60 and has claimed the BIG EAST and IC4A crowns this season. The invitation to the NCAA Championship caps Heath’s stellar track & field season, which includes garnering the program record in the indoor mile (4:01.68).
Senior Jillian Drouin tied for tenth in Flight 1 of the high jump preliminaries. Drouin finished tied for 17th overall with a height of 1.74-meters and did not qualify of the high jump final on Friday.
The senior will compete in the heptathlon beginning Friday. Drouin repeated as the heptathlon champion at the 2008 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship with an NCAA automatic-qualifying total of 5,554 points.
Senior Ramon Sosa is the lone SU athlete in competition today, racing in the first round of the 110-meter hurdles.
