Syracuse Snares Two BIG EAST Team Excellence Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University’s women’s outdoor track and field and volleyball teams were each granted with a 2007-08 BIG EAST Team Academic Excellence Award announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This recognition was doled out to each of the 23 teams with the highest collective grade-point averages in each conference sport.
The volleyball team posted a 3.69 cumulative GPA while the women’s outdoor track and field turned in a collective 3.50 GPA.
Eight BIG EAST schools had at least one team honored, with Notre Dame churning out a conference-best six squads. Cincinnati had five teams honored, while DePaul had four, Seton Hall had three, and Louisville and Rutgers each had one.
The women’s track and field team snared ninth place in the BIG EAST Championships last year hosted by Villanova at Jumbo Elliott Track whereas the women’s volleyball lineup finished with an overall record of 21-13-0 (8-7-0) in a four-way tie for sixth place in the BIG EAST rankings.
The winners were chosen based on the 2007-08 grade-point average of each student-athlete that appears on an institution’s squad list in a particular sport.
